Would you like to start working in the taxi industry? From 1 November 2026, obtaining a new taxi driver’s licence will require successful completion of the 21-hour Taxi Driver Basic Training.

We provide Traficom-approved Taxi Driver Basic Training entirely online, making it easy and convenient to study no matter where in Finland you live. Training is also available in the evenings and at weekends.

How the Taxi Driver Basic Training Is Delivered

Price: 278 € + VAT

In addition, we charge Traficom’s registration fee. 21 € (VAT 0 %)

Duration: 21 training hours (divided into 3 training days, 7 h per day)

Format: Fully online training

Language: The language of instruction is Finnish. Support is also available in English and Easy Finnish.

Payment methods: You can pay for the training directly through our online store using online banking, debit or credit card, MobilePay, Google Pay, Apple Pay or Klarna. Business customers can also pay by invoice.

The training fee includes:

  • Statutory 21-hour online training programme
  • Clear study materials and access to a practice platform where you can take practice tests while preparing for the taxi driver examination
  • Registration of your completed training in Traficom’s register after the course ends

After the training, we will report your completion to Traficom, after which you can book the official taxi driver examination at Ajovarma.

The 21-hour training provides a comprehensive foundation for the everyday work and customer service duties of a taxi driver:

  4. High-Quality Taxi Service: Responsible driving, route choices, and professional conduct.

Would You Like to Learn More About Taxi Driver Basic Training?

Yes. Once you have passed the official examination and obtained a taxi driver’s licence from Traficom, you can work as a driver for any taxi platform or taxi company.

However, you cannot drive Kela taxi services, Sote transport services, or school transport, as these are considered special passenger group transport services. If you want to provide these types of transport, you must complete the Special Groups Driver Training.

You cannot apply for a taxi driver’s licence without completing the Taxi Driver Basic Training. From 1 November 2026, new drivers must complete the mandatory 21-hour Taxi Driver Basic Training before they can take the official examination and obtain a taxi driver’s licence. Taksinkuljettajankoulutus.fi provides Traficom-approved Taxi Driver Basic Training online.

The training is a mandatory step towards obtaining a taxi driver’s licence, and we will prepare you carefully for the examination. The final licence is issued by Traficom and requires passing the examination, holding a valid Category B driving licence, and meeting the applicable health and background requirements.

You must have held a valid Category B driving licence issued in Finland or another EU/EEA country for at least one year.

Taxi Driver Basic Training provided by Taksinkuljettajankoulutus.fi (Akkad Group Oy) costs €278 + VAT. In addition, we charge Traficom’s registration fee of €21 (VAT 0%).

Our Taxi Driver Basic Training is delivered entirely online. You can participate using a computer or mobile phone from anywhere in Finland.

The Taxi Driver Basic Training is 21 hours long and is divided into three 7-hour training days.

The training is provided in Finnish, but the instructor can also speak English when needed.

Once you have completed the Taxi Driver Basic Training, you will receive a certificate from us, and your completion will be registered in Traficom’s professional qualifications register within a couple of days. Once Traficom’s records have been updated, you can register for the taxi driver examination at an Ajovarma service point. You can apply for a taxi driver’s licence after you have passed the taxi driver examination at Ajovarma.

You do not need to complete the Taxi Driver Basic Training if you already have a valid taxi driver’s licence. If you want to renew your taxi driver’s licence, you must complete the Taxi Driver Refresher Training.

A taxi driver’s licence is valid for five years at a time. If you are aged 68 or over, the licence is valid for two years at a time.
